Elvio Arancio Biografia
Elvio Arancio was born in Tunis, to a Sicilian father and Sardinian mother, in the heart of the Medina, in the street called ‘Dei Tintori’, where the colouring of the fabrics took place by immersion in masonry tubs.
Elvio Arancio è nato a Tunisi, da padre siciliano e madre sarda, nel cuore della Medina, nella via detta Dei Tintori, dove appunto avveniva, per immersione in vasche in muratura, la colorazione delle stoffe.
A WORLD OF CHEERFUL, COLORS, EMOTIONS.
Peeking into the Arab courtyards brought joy, colors multiplying everywhere, to which were added those of the markets, fruit, vegetables, spices, this place of birth is undoubtedly the hinterland of his artistic imagination, a world never forgotten, a phantasmagoria of images , of a childhood that he loves to remember as “My Arab funfair”-
His family returned to Italy in the early 1960s, moving to Turin; for Elvio the tear was strong: Turin was far from those colors, from those perfumes. Palm trees and the sea away. The link with his native place remained, albeit painful and unspoken, very close.
UN MONDO DI ALLEGRIA, COLORI, EMOZIONI.
Sbirciare all’interno dei cortili procurava allegria, colori ovunque, molteplici, cui si aggiungevano quelli dei mercati, frutta, verdure, spezie, questo luogo di nascita è indubbiamente il retroterra del suo immaginario artistico, un mondo mai dimenticato, una fantasmagoria d’immagini, di un’infanzia che lui ama ricordare come “Il mio luna park arabo”.
La sua famiglia ritorna in Italia agli inizi degli anni sessanta, trasferendosi a Torino; per Elvio lo strappo fu forte: Torino era lontana da quei colori, da quei profumi. Lontane le palme e il mare. Il legame con i luoghi nativi rimase, seppur sofferto e taciuto, molto sentito.
PASSION, JOURNEYS, MEETING WITH CERAMIC ART
The passion for drawing, inherited from his father, was expressed as a boy. In his frequent trips to the Mediterraneancountries , Egypt, Turkey, Morocco, Tunisia and Andalusian Spain, Elvio began to deepen, with great passion, the knowledge of the artistic tradition of these places, the refinement of the architecture, the taste for the geometric and floral decorations, which represents the conspicuous contribution of Arab art to the artistic heritage of humanity.
Ceramics is the form of expression that most fascinates him. Elvio deepened his knowledge of techniques with various masters, thus began a long phase of artistic experimentation which resulted in a series of very successful exhibitions that have led him to exhibit in various places in Italy and abroad.
LA PASSIONE, I VIAGGI, L’INCONTRO CON L’ARTE CERAMICA
La passione per il disegno, ereditata dal padre, si espresse sin da ragazzo. Nei suoi frequenti viaggi nei paesi del Mediterraneo, Egitto, Turchia,Marocco, Tunisia e la Spagna Andalusa, Elvio comincia ad approfondire, con grande passione, la conoscenza della tradizione artistica di questi luoghi, la raffinatezza delle architetture, il gusto delle decorazioni, geometriche e floreali, che rappresenta il cospicuo contributo dell’arte araba al patrimonio artistico dell’umanità.
La ceramica è la forma espressiva che più lo affascina, ne approfondisce la conoscenza delle tecniche con vari maestri, inizia così una lunga fase di sperimentazione artistica che sfocerà poi in una serie di mostre di grande successo che lo porterà a esporre in vari luoghi in Italia e all’estero.

AWARDS AND INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITIONS
Elvio’s art begins to extend beyond national borders, especially among gallerists and oriental art experts. On December 16th 2007, the Dalai Lama was awarded the Honorary Citizenship of the city of Turin, during the ceremony one of his ceramic works was given to the religious leader of Tibetan Buddhism.
The artist is considered by some specialized magazines as one of the most important in the field of modern Arabic-inspired art. In 2008 the Arab Emirates Abu Dabi satellite television sent a troupe to Turin to prepare a long report on his artistic activity, the episode dedicated to him, achieved a great success with audiences in various countries across the world. In September 2010 he was invited to the New York Art Biennial.
I RICONOSCIMENTI E LE MOSTRE INTERNAZIONALI
L’arte di Elvio comincia a estendersi oltre i confini nazionali, in particolar modo tra i galleristi e gli esperti d’arte orientale. Il 16 dicembre 2007 in occasione della cerimonia di conferimento della Cittadinanza Onoraria della città di Torino al Dalai Lama, una sua opera in ceramica è regalata al capo religioso del buddismo tibetano.
L’artista è considerato da alcune riviste specializzate uno dei più importanti nell’ambito dell’arte moderna d’ispirazione araba. Nel 2008 la televisione satellitare Abu Dabi degli Emirati Arabi, invia una troupe a Torino per allestire un lungo reportage sulla sua attività artistica, la puntata a lui dedicata consegue un grande successo di pubblico in vari Paesi del mondo. Nel settembre 2010 è invitato alla Biennale d’Arte di New York.

Così è successo che percorrendo i sentieri dell’arte Elvio Arancio abbia ritrovato l’indimenticata via Dei Tintori, i ghirigori degli arabeschi come giocosi percorsi colorati del suo personalissimo luna park. Artista generoso e poliedrico, Elvio Arancio si muove con disinvoltura fra la cultura araba e quella occidentale riecheggiandole l’una nell’altra, amalgamandole, contaminandole con stile inconfondibile e inesauribile ispirazione.
Ricordano l’andirivieni delle onde, le onde del Mediterraneo che l’hanno portato dall’una all’altra delle sue vite… questo viaggio di Elvio nell’Arte, che ad ogni sponda si sofferma a incontrare lo “spiritus loci”, a raccogliere il soffio vitale da insufflare nelle sue opere. Incantano, le opere di Elvio, e parlano al cuore e allo spirito di mondi distanti ma non lontani, di bellezze sognate e al contempo reali, di cielo e terra, di mare e deserto in un tripudio di forme, di colori e di echi, di musica. 2002
Elvio Arancio, drawing inspiration from some lyrics by the great Italian song writer Paolo Conte, created a series of works inspired by them. The exhibition entitled “The Arab Dream That You Love”, a phrase taken from the well-known song “Gelato al Limone”, achieved great public success both in Italy and abroad, especially in Paris.
Elvio Arancio, prendendo spunto da alcuni brani del grande artista Paolo Conte, crea una serie di opere ad essi ispirati. La mostra che si intitola “ Il Sogno Arabo Che Ami Tu”, frase tratta dal noto brano “Gelato al Limone”, ottiene un grande successo di pubblico sia in Italia che all’estero, a Parigi in particolar modo.
2006
The Department of Culture of the Piedmont Region entrusted Elvio Arancio with the organization of the first Arab-Islamic Art Biennial, involving 30 artists from countries of various continents. The exhibition took place throughout the month of May and saw an influx of over 7,000 visitors.
L’Assessorato alla Cultura della Regione Piemonte affida ad Elvio Arancio l’organizzazione della prima Biennale d’Arte Arabo-islamica, partecipano 30 artisti provenienti da Paesi di vari Continenti. L’esposizione si svolgerà per tutto il mese di maggio e vedrà un’ affluenza di oltre 7.000 visitatori.
2007
On December 16, 2007 the organizing committee for the assignment of honorary citizenship of the city of Turin to the Dalai lama, chose a work by Elvio Arancio to be donated to the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism.
Il 16 dicembre del 2007 il comitato organizzativo per l’assegnazione della cittadinanza onoraria della città di Torino al Dalai lama, sceglie un’ opera di Elvio Arancio da donare al capo spirituale del buddismo tibetano.

VIDEO-INTERVISTA
In May 2009, the UAE TV Abu Dabi sent a troupe of journalists, sound engineers and video operators to produce a documentary on the artistic activity of Elvio Arancio. The interview-document was aired in the Mediterranean countries, Europe, North America and in many other countries of the Middle East and Asia.
Nel maggio del 2009 la TV degli Emirati Arabi Abu Dabi invia una troupe composta da giornalisti, fonici e video operatori per produrre un documentario sull’attività artistica di Elvio Arancio. L’intervista-documento viene mandata in onda nei paesi del Mediterraneo, Europa, America del Nord ed in molti altri paesi del Medio-Oriente ed Asia.
